Whether you're here to take a peek into possibilities or you have realized you need to invest in your mental health and are ready for change, I applaud you for stopping by. It takes courage for you to be here at this very moment.
“Without commitment, you’ll never start, but more importantly, without consistency, you’ll never finish.” - Denzel Washington
I understand how lonely and debilitating depression can be. Depression can hold us back from our goals and prevent us from doing things we desire. Our relationships suffer because we feel helpless. We don’t understand how our lives got to this point. Life feels lonely and lacks meaning.
And then there’s the stress of trying to make sure things goes according to plan, but it never does. We feel drained and exhausted while trying to show up for ourselves and others. We lack self-love and experience lots of guilt and a high level of stress. The stress is unbearable, and we feel like we have lost control.
Have you ever felt this way?
I am here to tell you I’ve been there before, I can help you. You don’t have to do this alone. I have empowered many clients to use the strengths they already have and develop new skills to create meaningful and fulfilling lives. Life doesn’t have to be this hard. You deserve to take back control of your life and feel fulfilled. Imagine no longer feeling trapped by depression, waking up, and feeling excited about your day. You can live life on purpose and be hopeful for what’s to come.
You can break free from paralyzing stress. You don’t have to let stress hold you back from your personal and professional desires. Imagine waking up calm and goal-orientated because you’re able to manage your time well. Being present in the moment and intentional about your daily routine. And the pressure of “needing to do it all” no longer exists. No one should feel like they are drowning in a sea of stress. Healing is a journey and I will be right by your side.
The Journey
I am committed to helping black Christian professionals and entrepreneurs age 21 and older overcome depression or high stress, using their already-given strengths to create a healthy and fulfilling life. As a person who has dealt with refugee migration, grief and depression, I understand the emotional challenges of finding yourself while juggling many roles in life. Therefore, I believe we cannot become our best selves without healthy supportive relationships. Seeking therapy is a huge step toward establishing a healthy lifestyle. “Faith without works is dead” – James 2:26. You owe it to yourself to be a healthier and happier human being. Acceptance of this journey of growth will prepare you to live a fulfilled and purposeful life.
It is my goal to create a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space. I am supportive, engaged, dedicated, direct and authentic in helping people create healthy lives. I enjoy and value a collaborative approach and believe you should have a person-centered therapeutic experience to develop the coping skills that best meet your needs. I will be here supporting you, challenging you, and cheering you on during this season of your life. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline” – 2 Timothy 1:7.
My Background
I am a licensed therapist in Massachusetts and Texas. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bridgewater State University. I have ten years of therapeutic experience working with adults dealing with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and grief. Though I have helped people with most challenges over the years, lately my practice has focused on depression counseling and stress management counseling. I take an eclectic approach to treatment to serve the individual needs of my clients, with a primary focus on strength-based therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also use a Christian-based approach as spirituality is welcomed in the therapy room based on my client’s preference when appropriate. My Christian faith, along with my personal and professional experiences, shapes my therapy approach. Helping people is what I look forward to every day, and it inspired me to create the leading therapy directory for Africans worldwide, Equipped To Prosper. I am passionate about being a therapist and advocating for mental health and wellness. It is a privilege to witness clients make meaningful changes and find healing. As Julia A. Boyd profoundly said, “Somewhere between selfish and selfless is self-care.”
